Relating across Social Distancing
Thank God for technology! Without it, this time of social distancing could be so isolating. But thankfully our phones still work, texts still go through, email is active and despite the challenges we've all occasionally encountered with social media, maybe we can actually use it for connecting in helpful ways in such a time as this. Here is a thought for us all - actually a challenge. With all this extra time on our hands (for most; thank God for the willing and able who are actually stepping up to serve and help life to continue in this day and age), maybe we can actually do more connecting than we had before?
For my part, in the past two days, I have been on the phone or texting dozens of our church family and friends to check in, to offer encouragement and to pray. I have found that as I serve and sacrifice, it is I who am blessed, just as God has promised.
You might say, "Sure Pastor Ben; that is what a pastor is supposed to do." I agree. But we are all the body of Christ, right? As 1 Corinthians 12:26 reminds us, "If one members suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together."
So here is my challenge -- how about each one of us take the time and initiative to intentionally connect with at least one other person everyday. Ideally hearing a voice is best, but text or whatever. Just do it. Bless someone as you catch up, encourage one another, and pray for each other. With Christ's help, we can do this! WeRC3!
